Wait a minute - Hatch Chiles... in soap?!
Yes, and yes!
Hatch Chiles are Chile Peppers that are commercially cultivated in the Hatch Valley of Southern New Mexico, where then they are designated "Hatch Chiles". The Valley stretches along the Rio Grande River from Arrey, New Mexico on south to Tonuccu Mountain, just southeast of the town of Hatch, into the Rincon area.
Every fall, Hatch celebrates the Hatch Chile with the Hatch Chile festival... typically held over Labor Day weekend.
So why and how are Hatch Chiles placed in this soap? First, Hatch Chiles are scrubbed, sliced in half and dehydrated for 8-10 hours until all moisture is removed. They are then placed in a grinder and ground to a fine powder. From there, they are added to my favorite soap recipe along with pureed yuca root (also a plant here in the Southwest), and ground Mayan Copal Resin. I would encourage you to read about Yuca and Copal resin - both are wonderful when added to soap!
But why add Hatch Chiles to soap? My response is.. "why not?" I love soap, and I feel like a really good soap can make your personal care time that much more enjoyable. I love to do things different, and this is no exception. Is this soap spicy? Not a bit -- this soap is created with a lush, bubbly lather. I added in dehydrated Hatch Chiles that I ground into powder, as well as Nettle leaf powder, as a swirl in to the soap - every bar is different. NO two bars are the same. These bars are unscented - but hold the natural scent of soap.
Ingredients include: distilled water, saponified oils (olive oil, coconut oil, beef tallow, castor oil), Nettle powder, dehydrated ground Hatch green chiles. Unscented.
Not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
Each bar is wrapped and labeled with ingredients and weight.
