This soap is made with cottonwood bud oil (also known as Balm of Gilead), addition to castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and beef tallow.
If you aren't familiar with Balm of Gilead, it's also known as Cottonwood Oil - a very well known herbal oil with many admirable qualities that make it fantastic for supporting healthy skin.
Cottonwood Trees are found in the Pacific Northwest (Populus Balsamifiera) as well as the Southwest (Populus Fremontii). The buds of the tree are available late winter/very early spring – it is those buds that exude a sticky resin that is referred to as “Balm of Gilead” (Cottonwood oil).
The salicylates found in cottonwood are relatives of aspirin, and cottonwood has a significant amount of qualities that make it wonderful for supporting skin in a variety of ways.
Before making the soap, the buds are hand collected from the ground and fallen branches in the fall/early spring. Those buds are then infused in olive oil for a long period of time to extract the properties of the buds in addition to the aroma.
Ingredients include: distilled water, saponified oils (Balm of Gilead infused olive oil, coconut oil, beef tallow, castor oil). No added scent or fragrance.
